Frequently Asked Questions!
🐞 What does the admissions process look like? Our school is built on relationships. It’s important that we build trust with the child so they can seamlessly transition to our school. Our first step in getting to know new families is a 20 minute zoom meeting. During this meeting we will begin the process of getting to know families. This is the perfect time to ask questions. We will save a few minutes at the end to specifically connect with the child. We will wrap up with describing our next steps and scheduling an in-person meeting. In-person meetings are approximately 20 minutes each and 90% is focused on building a stronger relationship with the child and assessing their skills. After both meetings are completed, teachers will meet to discuss how to best support your child in transitioning to our school. We will send an email within 5 days that outlines next steps, including a link to our application.
Sometimes children are not ready for our group classes. If that is the case, we will let you know what options we recommend going forward. Often it’s because a child needs to get to know us better and/or has a skill that could use personalized coaching, so a couple of tutoring sessions will be suggested so we can help them grow their skills before they join the group. We will keep you updated throughout the process and give you tips on ways you can support your child at home.
🦉 How do I set up a zoom meeting? Fill this interest form. It should take less than 1 minute to complete. Once we receive your information, we will contact you within 30 days to set up a time to meet.
🦭 When will I find out if my child’s application is accepted? Families will be notified via email of their child’s placement or waiting pool status within 10 days of receiving your application.
🦅 What are the next steps after my child is offered enrollment? If your child is offered enrollment, you will receive a set of forms (Immunization Form, Emergency Contacts & Medical Information, Participant Waiver, and Payment Agreement). Your child’s enrollment is not finalized until we receive your non-refundable, non-transferable enrollment deposit and all applicable forms. You will have 48 hours to complete that step after receiving your admissions offer. If not completed in time, we will offer the spot to the next family on the waitlist. We will email you a confirmation email within 3 business days of receipt.
🐥 How do you make enrollment decisions? Priority is given to returning students and siblings of Recess students. Enrollment decisions are based on a variety of factors. Students must be fully potty trained, practice kindness, and able to consistently follow directions. Parents must be supportive and encouraging of their child, open to communication, regularly check and respond as needed to emails, complete all forms and payments on time, and ensure students arrive on time in the proper gear and with healthy snacks. Enrollment is not solely based on the order the applications are received, though promptness in communication, payments, and submission of required paperwork does play a role in our decision.
🦋 How can I find out more about the school? Due to the level of interest in our school, we are not able to offer individual tours at this time and look forward to meeting you at one of our Open Houses. Email OregonRecess@gmail.com to RSVP for our next Virtual Open-House.
🐇 Do you offer scholarships? Yes, we offer scholarships to families based on financial need and available funds. Please email the director for an application Email: OregonRecess@gmail.com
🐿 Are payments including deposits, fees, or tuition refundable? No. A significant amount of the cost of our programs are invested before classes start. All payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. There are no exceptions. Please see the fee schedule for current rates.
🦒 Will I be expected to contribute additional funds or volunteer at the school? No. Annual tuition covers most operating costs. However, we believe in being “helpers” and “good neighbors” in our community so occasionally you will be invited to join us in raising scholarship funds to help classmates in need or to participate in a fun community event.
🦫 Do you accept parent volunteers? The best way for parents to get involved is by participating in our Family Field Trips! Occasionally we have projects and special events that parents can contribute to.
